Savoy Hotel and Limerick Local Heroes introduce Lunchtime Theatre
26th and 27th April - 'The Canditate'
Lunchtime Theatre will take place on the last Thursday and Friday of each month
Savoy Hotel, Henry Street, Limerick
Limerick Local Heroes are proud to be supporting the introduction of the lunchtime theatre concept to the Savoy Hotel in Limerick. Based on the hugely successful Bewley’s Café Theatre on Grafton St in Dublin, the format is very simple – lunchtime guests will enjoy a 45-50 minute production over a soup and sandwich in a quality central location.
Colm O’Brien was general manager of Bewleys, Grafton St during the initial stages of cafe theatre, a concept which has proved to be immensely popular having become a recognised feature in Dublin’s cultural scene.
“The cafe theatre idea provides audiences with an accessible and entertaining means of spending some downtime during lunchbreaks. We have teamed up with the Savoy Hotel and are delighted to introduce this exciting project to Limerick city”, O’Brien says.
“A light lunch consisting of soup and sandwich can be enjoyed whilst taking in quality live theatre presented by local and national practitioners. The success seen in Bewleys over the past 20 years is testiment to the value of the venture”, O Brien adds.
Lunchtime theatre at the Savoy is initially planning to bring a new production to lunchtime audiences on the last Thursday and Friday of each month. The first – “The Candidate”, a one-woman show performed by Frances Healy and written and directed by Gina Moxley – will be presented at the Savoy on 26th and 27th April.
Frances Healy, no stranger to Limerick audiences, brings her unique talent to the lunchtime theatre project. “This short play is a comical narration of a holiday romance with a difference, involving a local TD and a young woman who recalls this unusual encounter in the sun with great amusement”, she says.
Doors open for each performance at 12.45pm with theatre commencing at 1.05pm sharp and finishing at 1.50pm giving audience members plenty of time to get back to the office, shopping or simply enjoying the rest of their day in Limerick city.
Admission: €10 to include light lunch of Soup and Sandwich (payable at door)
Limited seating, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Please note: Tickets reserved will be held until 12.55pm and, if not collected, released for sale. Some seating will be reserved for walk-ins for each showing.
