2010 Weed Spray Campaign
2010 Primary Weed Spray Campaign
 04-193x400.jpg)
Limerick City Council's Environment Department wishes to advise that the contracted, 2010 primary weed spraying campaign for footways (including traffic islands and closes), commenced on Wednesday, 26th May and concluded on Tuesday, 8th June, 2010.
Water and road sides of quay walls in the city were also sprayed during the primary campaign.
The current contract lasts for twelve months and after the conclusion of the primary campaign, reports of re-growth or perceived non-spraying will be forwarded to the contractor for remedial attention.
Spraying is undertaken using either all-terrain vehicles ('quad bikes') or foot patrols as shown in the picture above. It is preferable that spraying be undertaken during dry weather as rain water dilutes and rinses sprayed chemicals.
Although the chemical agents act quickly, visible discolouration of sprayed weeds may take some time (up to two weeks in damper weather) to become apparent.
The public is advised that only those areas taken in charge by Limerick City Council will be sprayed under this contract. Residents of (generally newer) housing estates not yet taken in charge should contact the estate developer to discuss any concerns in this regard.
