Limerick City Council

Regional Reuse Promotion

A unique Regional 'Reuse' Exhibition opens in Ormston House in Limerick City Centre from 12 noon on Thursday 5th April until Wed 25th April.  The aim of the Reuse exhibition is to encourage householders to offer items for reuse and promote the use of the free national reuse website www.FreeTradeIreland.ie.

The exhibit shows a living space consisting of reused items from ordinary peoples homes.  All of the items are completely reusable and perfect for posting on the FreeTrade Ireland website. FreeTrade Ireland is a public service that allows householders, schools, communities and businesses to pass on and pick-up those unused, old and unwanted items to other users free of charge.

The ethos of the service is simple - free reuse of items for all. The service offers users a cost-effective way of managing unwanted items while protecting the environment. The service has proven social benefits nurturing a spirit of goodwill in the community.

It is free to become a member of FreeTrade Ireland and posting an offered or wanted ad on the website is also free. Once an item of interest is spotted on the website simply contact the user offering the item and arrange to collect their new item for free.

Since it inception in 2010 the website has been very successful with:

  • Items reused through FreeTrade Ireland: 18,479
  • Weight of material diverted from waste stream: 382,022 kg
  • Savings: €1,904,848
  • Visits to the website: 1,758,721

Mayor Cllr Jim Long
“We want householders to think of FreeTrade Ireland as a practical option before deciding to throw away unwanted items. So next time you are clearing out your home, attic or shed, think reuse and think FreeTrade Ireland before ordering that skip.”

Brenda McEvoy, FreeTrade Ireland
‘This event here today is a great example of the quality items that people replace in their homes and businesses every day. We want people in the region to think of FreeTradeIreland.ie as an easy way to remove these items without the hassle and cost of hiring a skip while helping out people that need the items. We look forward to seeing business and household items available for reuse in the Limerick Clare and Kerry Region.’
