Learner Permits
1st Learner Permit
Learner Permit application must be accompanied by:
- Theory Test Certificate ( Ring 1890 60 61 06 to book a test or visit ( www.dtts.ie).
- Eyesight Report. ( Download available below) - Valid for 1 month, this report is necessary if you apply for categories A1,A,B,M,W, without any previous driving experience.
- Medical report: If you wish to apply for higher categories or have a medical condition.
- Application Form. (D.201)
- Two identical passport photographs - the reverse of both photographs must be signed by you.
- Passport of birth certificates :- as evidence of identity . These must be originals.
- Fee is € 15.
- The first learner permit is valid for two years.
- The permit holder, with the exception of those who hold learner permits in Category M, A1, A or W must be accompanied by a qualified driver at all times while driving.
- You may apply for categories EB, C1, C, D1, D, if you have a full B Licence
- You may apply for Categories EC1, EC, ED1, ED, if you have a full licence in the relevant drawing vehicle.
Please note that from the 1st July 2008 all persons granted a Learner Permit must be accompanied by a person who holds a full driving licence in the licence category for a continuous period of two years. Driving without a qualified person accompanying is a penal offence.

The above froms cannot be downloaded from the website at this time due to a specific signature requirement which has to be affixed to your licence.They are available at our offices, City Library and Garda stations.
