Compassionate Communities

The Compassionate Communities Project is a health promoting initiative of Milford Care Centre's at Home service. The project aims to develop ways to support and assist communities, to  help groups, families and individuals to cope with the experience of death, dying and grief.

As part of this project Watch House Cross Library has worked in partnership with Milford to develop a bibliotherapy section in the library as a resource for the commnity to use during periods of crisis or bereavement.

Bibliotherapy

Bibliotherapy is a word that refers to the beneficial effects of reading books with a therapeutic outcome in mind. Selected reading materials are used to assist a person in working through personal problems.

Sometimes reading certain books or stories can help us through different stages in our lives and can help us cope with our own problems.

'Books are the quietest and most constant of friends: they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers' Charles W. Eliot
