National Famine Commemoration Day takes place on Sunday 17th May 2009, in memory of all those who died and emigrated during the Great Famine.

Limerick City Council invites the organisers and all persons, participating in or attending local sporting and public events, to observe a minute of silent reflection on Sunday 17th May, in memory of all those who suffered loss during the Famine – loss of life, loss of family, loss of home and loss of country.
