- Grant for the Conservation of a Protected Structure
It is the policy of Limerick City Council to secure the preservation of buildings and structures included in the Development Plan because of their artistic, architectural or historical interest. It is also the policy of Limerick City Council to prevent the demolition of or any material alteration without planning permission of buildings/structures listed for protection in the Development Plan.
A new national conservation grant scheme for the conservation of protected buildings as set out in the Limerick City Development Plan 1998 was announced in May 1999 by the Department of the Environment and Local Government. A limited number of conservation grants are awarded annually by public competition and subject to conditions. The amount of such awards is determined annually subject to the availability of funds, and subject to a maximum not exceeding 50% of the works costs.
Limerick is a city with a history we are extremely proud of and the City Council's objective is to ensure that the archaeology of the City is protected, both above and below ground. This will be achieved through investigation prior to development being undertaken and also through research into various building foundation techniques.
