It is the intention of Limerick City Council to present information on this website in a format which is accessible to all, regardless of ability or disability.
The site has been redesigned with the deliberate intention of avoiding clutter while providing consistent and easily identifiable navigation throughout. The use of colour, breadcrumbs and links back to main sections further improves navigation.
The decision to redesign the site to accessible standards was brought about following a commissioned accessiblilty audit provided by CFIT in 2005. During the technical development the project team received direction and advice from disability authorities and the training of the new "web content" authors included a significant "writing for the web" element.
The site has been designed to reach AA (WCAG WAI Level 2) accessibility levels. However work on ancillary sites and Adobe documentson the site are required before this becomes a reality. We are actively striving to achieve this standard.
The site is developed using valid XHTML and cascading style sheets (CSS) which are screen reader friendly and make the site accessible to more of our citizens. Our site content is separated frompresentational elements, which makes it available to any visitors that use technologies such as a screen reader or text only browser.
Accessible web sites prioritise clear content, structure and ease of navigation over visual aspects of design, however they alsoneed not be visually unattractive, nor are they prevented from using the latest web technologies, provided that all information is still accessible to users.
You may find that on your screen the text is either too large or too small for your personal needs. Using the text size options, you can set a smaller or larger standard font size, and this will be applied to all pages you visit on our website.
Your browser's default text size setting for all web sitesYou may also use your browser settings to change the text size for allthe web sites that you visit. The technique for doing this is slightly different depending on the browser that you use:
- Internet Explorer: Select the 'View' menu (at the top of the screen), and select one of the options under 'Text Size'. The default setting is Medium.
- Mozilla Firefox: Select the 'View' menu, then select Increase, Decrease or Normal.
- Opera: Select the 'View' menu, then one of the 'Zoom' percentage options.
- Netscape: Select the 'View' menu, then one of the 'Text Zoom' options.
Text only version : A text only version of this web site is available which displays content in high visibility sizes and colours. To access the text only content, click on the "text only" link which appears at the upper left hand corner of very web page. Oncein the text only version, the site can be fully navigated using the marked hyperlinks. Click the "Media Rich" link at the top of any page to return to full graphics mode.
