Change of Ownership

Two procedures apply, one relating to Registration Book (Log Book), the other relating to Vehicle Licensing Certificate (VLC)/Vehicle Registration Cert (VRC)

Vehicles registered before 1st January 1993 (REGISTRATION BOOK) are dealt with by the Motor Tax Office

Vehicles registered after 1st January 1993 (Vehicle Licensing Certificate)/Vehicle Registration Cert (VRC) are dealt with by the Vehicle Registration Unit, Department of the Environment and Local Government, Shannon, Co Clare.

Items to be submitted to the Motor Tax Office

• RF200 form fully completed

Registration Book

Item to be submitted to the Vehicle Registration Unit

• Vehicle Registration Cert (VRC)

Note 1

Where vehicle transferred to a Motor Dealer:

For Pre 1993 Registrations

• The RF200 form is submitted to the Motor Tax Office
• The registration book is given to the Motor Dealer

For Registrations after 1st January 1993

A form RF105 is submitted to the Vehicle Registration Unit

• The vehicle licensing certificate/Vehicle Registration Cert (VRC) is given to the Motor Dealer

You continue to be the legal registered owner of a vehicle until the Motor Tax Office or Vehicle Registration Unit has been notified of the transfer of Ownership
