Watter Matters Consultation Dates

• A new approach is being taken to managing and protecting our waters (all our inland and coastal waters).
• New legislation now requires that the local authorities in the Shannon IRBD (International River Basin District) have a management plan in place for the whole of the Shannon river basin by 2009
• Two public consultation periods will take place before the plan is finalised.

The first consultation period is until 22 December 2007 and relates to the key management issues which affect the water in the Shannon district. A new booklet called Water Matters sets out these issues in a very easy-to-read manner and explains how they affect water quality, what controls are in place to deal with these issues and if they are adequate to meet the required standards.

The second consultation period will take place be on the draft River Basin Management Plan after it is published in 2008

A series of informal public events throughout the Shannon basin have been planned as part of the consultation process. Each event will start at 8.00pm and refreshments will be provided.
