Social Work and Housing Welfare Department

The Social Work Department is part of the Social Policy & Housing Department of Limerick City Council. It caters for a wide range of clients with diverse Housing and Social needs and informs policy makers, service users and providers.

The Department is staffed by three Social Workers and their duties are based in three main areas:

Housing Welfare

The Social Workers assess each applicant for Local Authority Housing, Housing Transfers, Grants, Loans, Capital Assistance Schemes and all other services offered by the Department of Social Policy & Housing.

Travellers

The Department supports Travellers who are tenants of the City Council and those Travellers seeking Traveller Specific and/or Standard Accommodation. It also acts a resource to promote a better understanding between the settled and travelling communities in the city.

Community

The Social Workers are involved in the following areas: establishing and promoting estate management principles, Eldercare, linking with other Social Agencies in the city for example Social Services Centre, Mid Western Health Board, Barnardos and representing Limerick City Council on a number of local and regional boards.
