Limerick City Council Launch Festive Competition for Retailers

Monday, November 30th 2009

Limerick City Council is inviting traders on Thomas Street, Bedford Row and Little Catherine Street to take part in a festive competition to find the area’s best kept street front.

From now until Christmas, traders in Limerick’s pedestrianised zone are being invited to enter the competition which will see five businesses rewarded for having the best kept ‘front of’ premises.

The competition will be judged by Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Kevin Kiely and Limerick City Council will get the ball rolling by distributing free brushes and pans to all businesses in the three streets from this week.

According to Mayor Kevin Kiely; “As a City Council, we are determined to promote Limerick’s City Centre as the place to visit and shop this Christmas. The traders have worked very well with us during the year and this is a small measure of recognition for their co-operation.”

Limerick City Council, Senior Executive Officer, Paul Foley, explained: “The Street washing programme on these streets is already progressing quite efficiently. This is another pilot project, which if successful, could be rolled out to other parts of the city. Shop owners have made a huge effort to keep their premises tidy and this is a nice way to recognise that. It’s also a way that traders in Little Catherine Street, Thomas Street and Bedford Row could reward their staff who have worked so hard for them all year.”

Winners will be judged in Christmas week and the winning shop fronts will be announced in the local press.
