Limerick Shoppers Enjoy 10 cent Parking on Saturdays

Monday April 6th, 2009

Limerick shoppers are enjoying parking for just ten cents an hour every Saturday this April under a scheme to try and boost footfall in the city centre.

Limerick City Council have joined forces with the Limerick Leader/Limerick Chronicle newspapers and 60 city retailers as part of a ‘Buy up the City’ campaign to try and encourage shoppers to return to the city centre and offer them a chance to beat the recession by winning great prizes.

Shoppers will be offered the chance to win part of a total prize fund of €10,000, while Limerick City Council in association with Park Magic are offering shoppers an unbeatable offer of parking for just 10 cents an hour.

Shoppers will receive coupons with their purchases and when they receive three coupons they will be eligible for a draw at the end of the month long event, which runs from Monday April 6 to May 3.

As part of the dedicated marketing campaign - which Spin South West FM, The Limerick Co-Ordination Office and The Future Limerick Action Group (FLAG) are all supporting - shoppers will be able to take advantage of a parking scheme, whereby they can park for just ten cents an hour every Saturday.

“It’s no secret that Limerick City Centre trading has faced strong competition from the development of retail parks and we free strongly that this issue needs to be addressed” said Irene Hamilton, Managing Director of the Limerick Leader. “The Limerick Leader has championed this cause for a number of months now and we are delighted with the support that we have received from our media colleagues Spin South West and the Limerick Chamber and City Council for this promotion which aims to encourage Limerick people to broaden their shopping patterns and enjoy the experience of City Centre Shopping”

Limerick City Council traffic engineer Rory McDermott has also welcomed the initiative which has had a fantastic response from city traders.

There will be weekly prizes of €1,000 for shoppers that enter the competition, while a final prize of €5,000 will go to one lucky shopper.

Entry forms will be published in the Limerick Leader and Limerick Chronicle newspapers each week in April.
