"Fr Finucane was a tireless champion of the poor and his work helped improve the lives of millions of people across the world.

During his time at the helm of Concern,he devoted himself to battling suffering, distress and conflict, responding to many humanitarian disasters and increasing the organisation's aid work dramatically.  The scale of his achievements truly are immense.

Among the many awards he received included the Freedom of Limerick City and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Limerick for the inspirational work he carried out in some of the world's worst famine and war zones.

We were so proud to call him one of our own and Limerick will deeply mourn his passing.

Educated at the Christian Brothers in Sexton Street,Limerick, few can can emulate the achievements of this extraordinary man and I offer my deepest sympathy to Fr Finucane's family."
