Experience Limerick - New city guides for Limerick City

Thousands of visitors to Limerick are set to benefit from a new promotional city map and guide launched today (Monday) showing some of the city’s best places to eat, drink, stay and visit.

Experience Limerick are colourful booklets called “z cards” which open to reveal a city map showing visitors where to eat, drink, dance, stay and what to see and do.

The opposite side of the map outlines 25 fun things to enjoy during a stay in Limerick including details of tourist attractions like King John’s Castle and the Hunt Museum as well as tips to check out the Limerick Market, visit Georgian Limerick or explore the city’s rich rugby history.

The z cards also carry a new Experience Limerick logo depicting the University of Limerick flagpoles, Thomond Park Stadium, King John’s Castle, St Mary’s Cathedral, Riverpoint and the city’s Thomond Bridge.

The cards were commissioned by the Limerick Co-Ordination Office and the printing of 50,000 was jointly funded by Shannon Development and Limerick City Council.  They were designed by Neville Design Group, Howley’s Quay Limerick.

The introduction of the Z cards has been welcomed by Limerick Chamber of Commerce, Munster Rugby and Thomond Park Stadium.

Laura Ryan, Communications Executive, Limerick Co-Ordination Office said the cards are aimed primarily at the rugby/concert going visitor to the city and will be distributed through the Shannon Development Tourist Office network including Limerick, Adare and Shannon, and all hotels as well as electronically to all visiting rugby fans/supporters set to visit Thomond Park Stadium this season.

“Earlier this year an economic impact study carried out by BDO Simpson Xavier on behalf of Munster Rugby found that visitors to Limerick wanted more information on where to eat, drink and what to do when they visit the city,” Laura explained.

“We believe that these Experience Limerick cards can fill that gap especially when you consider that each Magners League game is worth up to €3.5m to the region and each concert and Heineken Cup game worth €10m. We are grateful to Limerick City Council and Shannon Development for supporting us on this project,” she added.

Eoghan Prendergast, Shannon Development’s Limerick Development Division Manager said: “As the tourism authority for the Shannon Region we are delighted to be involved in the production and support of the new Z map. It complements our work on the branding of Limerick as a sports destination, and we will use it alongside our existing suite of tourism literature at all of our main tourism promotions at home and overseas.”

The Limerick Co-Ordination Office will also issue electronic (PDF) “What’s On This Weekend” guides to visiting rugby supporters ahead of each big game in Thomond Park this season.
