Cllr Denis McCarthy, Deputy Mayor of Limerick said the International Band Parade showcased Limerick at its very best.
“We had almost 600 musicians taking part in this year’s event and it was wonderful to see so many people coming out and enjoying themselves,” he said. “After the huge success of the National Lottery Skyfest in Limerick last night, it has been a fantastic weekend for the city and a great way to celebrate the St Patrick’s Festival,” he added.
Parade organiser, Fran O’Donnell, from Futureama Productions, said he was thrilled with the record turnout.
“We were also blessed with the weather but it was great to see so many families on the streets of the city,” he said. “We’re delighted with the success of the band competition and we look forward to our biggest ever St Patrick’s Day Parade on Wednesday.
More than 3,500 participants will take part in the Limerick St Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place at noon on Wednesday, March 17th.
Limerick rugby hero Keith Earls, the current Six Nations top try scorer, will lead the 2010 Parade as Grand Marshal.
The theme of St Patrick’s Day parade is I Love Limerick and festival organisers are hoping that a spectacle of colour and sound will fill the streets of Limerick with a parade that celebrates all that the Treaty City has to offer.
