Rathbane Golf Course Offically Re-opens

Rathbane Municipal Golf Course, Rathbane, Limerick has been re-opened by the Mayor of Limerick, Cllr. Kevin Kiely following an €800,000 re-development and upgrade.

Works on the 18 hole parkland course included:
  • The construction of 25 New Bunkers,
  • The Re-building of Tee Boxes incorporating a new Irrigation System,
  • Construction of a Short Game Facility, including a chipping Green and new Putting Green,  
  • Realignment of the 9th Hole to incorporate a Lake, and new Practice Greens.
  • Planting of more than 70 Mature Trees
Speaking at the official re-opening ceremony at 11am today (Friday) Mayor Kiely said:
“This is a fantastic facility which will benefit the entire city as well as the 700 male, female and juvenile members of the club,” he said. “I’m very much looking forward to playing at the new and improved course. It is a great boost for the area and in particular, the Rathbane course provides a wonderful social outlet for the youth of the area through the First Tee programme which provides access to golf for those who might not have had the opportunity to participate in sport.”

The contract for the works at Rathbane Golf Club was awarded to Messrs European Golf Services, 23 Limerick Road, Ennis, Co Clare following a tender selection process.  
The necessary works were designed by Messrs. White, Young, Green Consultant Engineeers in conjunction with John O’ Sullivan of ProGolf Solutions and Ken Kearney, Architect.  

The project was designed to enhance the existing course and full consultation took place with Rathbane Golf Club and the Management Company Mack Trading (International) Ltd.

The construction cost of the project, €800,000, was funded by the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism, the National Lottery and Limerick City Council.
 
Rathbane Golf Course, a former Munster Club of the Year, is a public 18 hole park land course located in the southern outskirts of Limerick City.

The course is owned by Limerick City Council and managed by Mack Trading Ltd. Associated with the course is a strong members club, Rathbane Golf Club.

The Mayor, Cllr. Kevin Kiely and other members of Limerick City Council have embraced the positive attributes of the Golf Course

The club consists of over 700 Men, Ladies and Juvenile members. It is affiliated with the Golfing Union of Ireland and The First Tee of Ireland.

Membership of both the course and club is open to men, ladies and juveniles. New members are always welcome!
