2010 Event to Benefit Limerick Youth Service and Milford Care Centre

Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray has been announced as the guest speaker at the 2010 Mayor’s Ball which will take place in the Limerick Strand Hotel on Friday April 30th.

Mayor Kevin Kiely has nominated two local charities, Limerick Youth Service and Milford Care Centre to benefit from the Ball which is traditionally a highlight of the Limerick social calendar.

The Mayor’s Ball has not taken place in Limerick since 2008 and Mayor Kiely is appealing for Limerick businesses to support the event.

“As Mayor of Limerick, I’m delighted to be able to give a boost to two very worthwhile local charities who now, more than ever, need our support,” said Cllr Kiely.
“Both Milford Care Centre and Limerick Youth Service do tremendous work within our community and I am appealing to people to support this year’s Ball which also promises to be a very entertaining night. I’m particularly pleased that Senator Tim Murray will be making a special trip to Limerick to be our guest speaker,” he added.

Both Milford Care Centre and Limerick Youth Service have expressed their appreciation to the Mayor for nominating their organisations as beneficiaries.

Milford Care Centre incorporates the activities of Milford Hospice, Milford Day Care Centre and Milford Nursing Home.  Milford also provides a comprehensive range of Specialised Palliative Care to patients and their families with a range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care.  The Centre provides this service for patients and their families at a difficult time in their lives.

Pat Quinlan, Milford Care Centre, Chief Executive explained:
“As an organisation we face many challenges in continuing to provide high quality services and whilst there is some public funding made available by HSE for the services provided there remains a significant shortfall which has to be met through our fund raising activities.
In this regard, Milford Care Centre is very appreciative of the support given from the Community and we are delighted that Milford has been nominated by the Mayor as one of the chosen charities to benefit from the annual Mayoral Ball.”

Limerick Youth Service is recognised as a leading provider of a variety of quality programmes for the young people of Limerick City and County. The organisation works in partnership with a number of national and regional organisations including the Health Services Executive, the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Limerick City and County VEC’s and the Department of Education and Science, along with many volunteer and community groups.

Catherine Kelly, Director, Limerick Youth Service said: “The aim of our Service is to advocate on behalf of all young people in Limerick, regardless of background, ethnicity, economic status or locality, whilst empowering and encouraging them to take a leading role in shaping their own futures and that of their communities. The fundraising through the Mayor’s Ball will enable us to continue to work with over 3000 young people throughout Limerick.
