The key objective of The Gathering Ireland Local Community Fund is to provide financial support to local and community Gathering event organisers and activities which will attract overseas visitors to Limerick.

The fund, a 50:50 partnership between IPB Insurance and The Gathering Ireland 2013 is in response to the rapidly growing number of gatherings being planned across the country for 2013. The fund will be administered by Limerick City and County Councils in this area to support events and gatherings that have the capacity to attract overseas visitors.

Limerick Gathering chairperson Donal Fitzgibbon, is encouraging all local groups who are planning Gatherings for 2013 in to fill out the application form by the application deadline of 4pm on Friday, November 30th.

“We have had two very successful public meetings in Limerick when a huge number of ideas were generated for Gathering events in 2013,” Donal said. “Many communities have already gone ahead and started planning their events and making contact with overseas friends, relations, neighbours and those interested in coming to Limerick in 2013. I would strongly encourage anyone who is putting a plan together for an event next year to fill out the short application form for funding for their event. The forms can be collected from either City Hall in Merchant’s Quay or County Hall in Dooradoyle or downloaded from the Gathering Ireland website www.thegatheringireland.com/localcommunityfund

“This is an exciting opportunity for each and every one of us to play our part in showing what is best about Limerick and its people and with grant amounts ranging from €500- €2500, it is imperative that every organisation gets their application in by the 30th November deadline,” Donal added.
