Ballinacurra Green Route

The project includes for street improvement measures and construction of an inbound bus lane from the city boundary at Ballinacurra Creek on the Ballinacurra Road R526 to its junction with Childers Road and footpath and signal upgrades up to Punches Cross.. The project works will also include amendment of lane distribution along the roadway to facilitate bus priority measures, upgrade works to footpaths, traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, bus stops and cycle facilities along the length of the route. The details of the scheme are included on the drawings submitted with the application for part 8.

The proposed project works form part of Limerick City’s Southern Green Route, and will connect with the recent Green Route works carried out by Limerick County Council on Saint Nessans Road in Raheen. This project is Phase 1 of a 2-phase project to complete the Green Route from Raheen into the city centre. Phase 2 would bring the Green Route from Punches Cross to the city centre, either along O’Connell Avenue or an alternative route via the Southern Ring Road, Hyde Road and Limerick Train and Bus Station.
